Student Istanbul Card
When traveling in Istanbul, you can use many public transportation options. To do this, you need to have an Istanbulkart. If you are a student, you can use a discounted Student Card to travel at more affordable rates.
To obtain a Student Card, and to get your Istanbul Discounted Travel Cards (İETT), you can apply in person by visiting one of the Istanbulkart Application Centers (https://www.istanbulkart.istanbul/basvuru-merkezleri) with your student certificate, original ID, and a recent photo, or you can apply online through https://bireysel.istanbulkart.istanbul/ (You need to have completed your registration at your university to apply online).
You can use your Istanbul Discounted Travel Cards on public transportation (such as buses, IETT, metro, tram, Marmaray, metrobus, ferry, etc.) by simply holding your Istanbulkart close to the validator devices on public transport or the card readers at turnstiles.
City Transportation
Metrobus, Metrobus is one of the fastest and most economical transportation options in Istanbul. It helps you bypass heavy traffic, allowing you to move quickly within the city. The metrobus operates 24 hours a day, offering fast and uninterrupted travel between stops, thanks to its dedicated lanes. With 45 stops, the metrobus line connects key hubs such as Avcılar, Zincirlikuyu, the Bosphorus Bridge, and Söğütlüçeşme. You can benefit from discounted fares with your student card and reach many central points in a short time.
- Bus,There are two types of buses in Istanbul: Municipal IETT Buses and Private Public Buses. IETT buses are red, white, or green, while Private Public Buses are blue or green, using environmentally friendly engines. Buses are one of the most common and economical ways to reach various parts of the city. They have an extensive route network and serve almost every district. Bus services generally run frequently and continue late into the night.
Minibus (Dolmuş),Minibuses are a fast and flexible transportation option in Istanbul. These minibus vehicles follow fixed routes but can pick up and drop off passengers without being bound to specific stops. Operating mainly on main roads and in busy areas, minibuses allow you to travel quickly without getting stuck in traffic. You can travel at a discounted rate with your student card and easily reach different parts of the city.

How to Get to Istanbul Gelişim University from Istanbul Airport
- By Taxi: You can reach the university in approximately 35 minutes by taxi from the airport.
- By Public Transport: Take the HAVAIST-9 service from Havaist at the airport to Avcılar Mosque. From there, a 2-minute walk will take you to the metrobus station (see the transportation section for details on how to use the metrobus). Board the metrobus heading towards Beylikdüzü and get off at the Mustafa Kemal Paşa stop after two stops. You can then walk for about 10 minutes or use the university’s shuttles to reach the campus. Note: You can check the departure times of Havaist services at https://hava.ist.
How to Get to Istanbul Gelişim University from Sabiha Gökçen Airport
- By Taxi: You can reach the university in approximately 70 minutes by taxi from the airport.
- By Public Transport: Take the HAVABUS shuttle from the airport to Kadıköy. From Kadıköy, walk about 20 minutes to Söğütlüçeşme metrobus station and board the metrobus heading towards Beylikdüzü. Get off at the Mustafa Kemal Paşa stop after 34 stops. You can then walk for about 10 minutes or use the university’s shuttles to reach the campus.
How to Get to Istanbul Gelişim University from Esenler Bus Terminal
- By Taxi: You can reach the university in approximately 45 minutes by taxi from the bus terminal.
- By City Shuttles: You can use the free city shuttles provided by your bus company. Depending on the proximity of the shuttle’s stop in Avcılar to the university, you can either walk, take a minibus, bus, or metrobus to the campus.
