Life at IGU

Campus Transportation

Istanbul Gelişim University has different campuses that have been organized according to the needs of IGU students and academic units, providing easy access without entering city traffic.

Transportation

Istanbul Gelisim University is located in the direction of Beylikdüzü D-100 highway. With the ease of transportation developed for both sides of Istanbul, students can easily come to the campus area. In addition to being close to the metrobus station, we have ring shuttle services between our faculties and the metrobus, with a private shuttle company contracted by our university. Students who come to the campus with their private vehicles can use the university's car park free of charge.

Metrobus

Metrobus is a bus transit route with a speed of 50 km. The metrobus line, which has 45 stops, connects the main stops of Avcılar, Zincirlikuyu, Bosphorus Bridge and Söğütlüçeşme. The first section of the metrobus line was opened in 2007. The metrobus line, the construction of which took 2 years, carries more than 800,000 passengers per day. Turkish authorities are assisting Pakistan and Lahore in developing similar systems.

Bus

There are 2 types of buses in Istanbul; Municipal IETT Buses and Private Public Buses. While IETT buses are red, white or green, Private Public Buses are blue or green and use environmentally friendly engines.

Minibus

Minibuses are large taxi versions with a maximum of 8 passengers. They work on designated routes as day and night shifts. Each passenger pays 1/8 of the price payable to a regular taxi. For this reason, vehicles leave after all seats are filled.

What is Istanbulkart?

Istanbulkart is an electronic card used in all public transportation vehicles in Istanbul. Istanbulkart has replaced Akbil, which was in use until 2010. Istanbul Card can be obtained from the booths marked ‘Akbil’ or ‘Akbil Filling Point’. Money can be loaded onto the cards from the machines at the stops or at the relevant filling points. Most transportation centers have these machines; the machines only accept paper money and do not issue change.

Payment Method

In order to use IETT buses, it is necessary to have an Akbil (Istanbulkart) or ticket. Tickets; available from the white cabs at the main bus stops. These tickets are not valid for private buses; Istanbulkart can be used on these buses or cash payment can be made.

Working Hours and Route

Most buses and minibuses run from 06:00 in the morning to 23:00 at night. Places where the main bus stops such as Taksim Square can have different routes or lines. You can visit the IETT website to find out which bus uses which route.
